Our Approach
Building More Than Buildings
Every construction project should leave more than a completed building. It should create a positive legacy for people, communities and the environment.
At Jarvale, Social Value is embedded into every stage of project delivery, helping us create benefits for clients, local communities, the environment and regional economies alongside high-quality construction.
Whether we are delivering commercial construction projects, healthcare facilities or industrial developments, we look beyond the construction programme to identify opportunities that create lasting value through sustainable decision-making, community engagement and responsible delivery.
Our approach brings together environmental responsibility, biodiversity, carbon reduction and Social Value, supporting our aim to leave a positive legacy.

Our Priorities
Our Approach to Social Value
Every project is different, but our commitment remains the same. We work collaboratively with clients, local stakeholders and our supply chain to identify opportunities that create meaningful Social Value throughout the lifecycle of a project.

Our Commitment
Social Value Throughout Every Project
Social Value is not something added at the end of a project. It is considered from the earliest planning discussions through to final handover.
We work collaboratively with clients, consultants, local stakeholders and supply chain partners to identify priorities that are appropriate to each development. These may include local procurement, employment and training opportunities, community engagement, carbon reduction and biodiversity enhancement.
Whether delivering a commercial construction project, a healthcare development or an industrial facility, we consider Social Value alongside programme, quality and safety.

Proven in Practice
Social Value in Action
Our approach is supported by real projects and initiatives across the communities where we work.
At Navigation Way, Jarvale transformed a brownfield site while working with local businesses, creating employment opportunities and investing in landscaping, tree planting, energy-efficient systems and habitats beneficial to insects. The development received recognition in 2023 for its contribution to the local economy and regional employment.
Our wider work also includes community facilities and healthcare wellbeing spaces designed to support local people beyond construction.

Project Delivery
Connecting Social Value & Sustainability
Social Value and environmental responsibility are closely connected. Jarvale’s Integrated Sustainability Plan brings together carbon reduction, climate action, biodiversity, community engagement and local supply-chain support within one coordinated approach.
Our project teams consider practical opportunities to minimise environmental impact, improve building performance and create long-term benefits for building users and surrounding communities. This is supported by our Carbon Reduction Plan, Carbon Literacy activity and ISO 14001 environmental management procedures.
Through our decarbonisation building services and design and build services, sustainability can be considered from early project development through to construction and handover.
People & Places
Supporting Local Skills & Economies
Our local-first approach helps project investment benefit the areas in which we build.
Where appropriate, we work with regional suppliers, educational organisations, community groups and not-for-profit partners to explore employment, training and engagement opportunities. With over 90% of our supply chain based in South Yorkshire, we understand the value that responsible local procurement can bring to businesses, workers and communities.
These activities are tailored to the scale and requirements of each project, ensuring that commitments are meaningful, achievable and aligned with the client’s wider objectives.

Responsible Employment
Creating Fairer Opportunities Through Construction
Positive Social Value also depends on how people are treated throughout the construction supply chain.
Jarvale supports fair recruitment, equality, diversity and responsible employment practices across our business and project delivery. We are committed to helping people develop their skills, reducing inequality wherever possible and creating opportunities based on ability and suitability.
Our approach is supported by established recruitment, training and Modern Slavery policies, alongside a commitment to ensuring our employees and supply-chain workforce receive at least the National Living Wage on the projects we deliver. These principles help create safer, fairer and more inclusive working environments while supporting lasting economic value within local communities.
