Purpose-Built Laboratory Construction for Swann Morton
Jarvale was appointed as principal contractor to deliver a purpose-built laboratory for Swann Morton at its Penn Works facility in Sheffield. The project involved demolishing an existing building before constructing a fully serviced laboratory complete with specialist mechanical and electrical installations, an ISO Class 8 clean room and bespoke laboratory fit-out.
Procured under a JCT Intermediate Building Contract with Contractor’s Design (ICD), the scheme gave Jarvale responsibility for key structural and building services design, reinforcing our expertise in delivering technically demanding design & build construction projects for manufacturing and specialist industrial environments.

Working within an operational manufacturing site required careful planning from the outset. Jarvale coordinated demolition, asbestos investigations, service diversions, vibration-monitored piling and specialist subcontractors while maintaining safe operations across neighbouring facilities.
As the client’s requirements evolved, our team successfully incorporated additional laboratory fit-out works, specialist ventilation systems, clean room requirements, smoke control, heat recovery and building management systems without compromising programme or quality.
