Specialist Pharmacy Refurbishment at Royal Hallamshire Hospital
Jarvale was appointed to deliver a specialist pharmacy refurbishment at Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield, transforming the existing space into a modern facility for Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The project involved a complete strip-out and fit-out, with new mechanical and electrical services, air conditioning, finishes and specialist pharmacy installations.
Delivered within a live hospital environment, the project required careful coordination to maintain access, protect surrounding clinical areas and minimise disruption to patients and staff. Jarvale also provided temporary pharmacy accommodation to maintain pharmacy services while the permanent facility was refurbished, before coordinating the works required for the specialist robotic dispensing installation.

Complete Hospital Pharmacy Refurbishment & Fit-Out
The project involved a complete strip-out and refurbishment of the existing pharmacy, with new building services, finishes and specialist installations coordinated within the live hospital environment while pharmacy services remained operational.
LIVE HOSPITAL DELIVERY
Working Within a Live Hospital Environment
Delivering the pharmacy refurbishment within an operational hospital required careful planning around patients, staff and ongoing clinical activity. Materials and waste had to be transported through live hospital areas, with deliveries coordinated around quieter periods to minimise disruption and maintain clear access routes.
Dust control was particularly important throughout the works. Jarvale used sealed segregation between the construction zone and adjoining occupied areas, alongside extraction and HEPA-filtered air scrubbers to help prevent airborne dust spreading into the live hospital environment.
These measures demonstrate Jarvale’s experience delivering complex healthcare construction and hospital refurbishment projects where safety, cleanliness and continuity must be carefully managed throughout construction.
OPERATIONAL CONTINUITY
Maintaining Pharmacy Services & Specialist Robot Installation
Maintaining pharmacy services throughout the refurbishment was a key consideration. Jarvale first refurbished and prepared a temporary pharmacy, allowing the existing operation to relocate while work progressed on the permanent facility and ensuring pharmacy provision could continue.
The main pharmacy was stripped back before receiving new mechanical and electrical services, air conditioning, ceilings, flooring and specialist pharmacy units. Jarvale also coordinated the associated site and enabling works required to install the new robotic dispensing system.
Bringing together the temporary pharmacy, permanent healthcare fit-out and specialist robotic installation required careful sequencing.
